Tasty Tuesday - Spicy Sexy Sipping Chocolate

Spicy Sipping Chocolate

Disclosure: I received a sample of the EZY Chef Milk Frother to review in this post, but the recipe, thoughts and opinions are my own. In our house we have a love affair with hot chocolate. There is nothing better than a steaming cup of hot chocolate on a cold day. I’m not a big fan of the taste of powdered hot chocolate mix, but it’s convenient and the kids like it. So I used to buy several of the giant, economy-sized containers. My kids would make themselves hot chocolate (and a huge mess for me to clean up) all winter long. But then one day I discovered sipping chocolate. Now I’m not talking about the amazingly thick pudding-like sipping chocolate you will find in Europe, but the lovely rich cup of hot, frothy …

Tasty Tuesday – How to Make The Best Whipped Cream Ever

In our family, one of our favorite treats is freshly made whipped cream on pretty much anything sweet. Cake, fruit, pie, ice cream, pudding, you name a dessert/treat and it tastes better with fresh whipped cream. My kids will eat it plain right out of the bowl. Okay, okay… so will I. A couple of years ago we were living in Williamsburg, VA and had the opportunity to purchase our Thanksgiving dinner from the country club my husband was working for at the time. With his manager’s discount, it was actually cheaper for us to buy the fully-cooked meal than for me to buy the ingredients and then cook it myself. One of the things that was included in the package was a plastic container of what looked like whipping cream, but …

Pink Lemonade Margarita

It was a little chilly over the weekend here (for North Carolina) and my husband lit a fire in the living room fireplace while we watched a movie. We aren’t used to having a gas log fireplace–we have always had a wood fireplace–so we haven’t gotten the settings mastered quite yet. It got SOOOOO hot in our living room that I had to change into shorts and a t-shirt! With that dry heat radiating through the room, I was in the mood for an adult beverage. Since it felt like summer in here, I decided to make a summery drink… a Pink Lemonade Margarita. Super simple to make and delicious! Tastes like summer… only 30 weeks to go!   Pink Lemonade Margarita print shopping list Preparation 5 min Total Time 0:05 …

Tasty Tuesday – How To Seed A Pomegranate (without squirting juice all over yourself)

I love the fall. I love the cool, crisp, sweater weather, the stunning leaves, Pumpkin Spice everything (except coffee, I don’t like coffee at all) and pomegranate season! I get so excited the first time I find pomegranates in the grocery store. I miss them after the season is over, so I tend to buy them all. the. time. when they are available. Thankfully our local Aldi has them at a great price, because they are normally between $2-4 a piece. And eating one or two a day could get a little pricey. (And I DON’T share with my girls. I let them have everything else, but the poms are MINE!) Pomegranates can be a bit daunting to seed. They are messy; if you don’t do it correctly you end up …

It’s that time of year again… you know what I’m talking about, no, not sweater weather (at least not here in NC yet), but Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte time! I don’t actually drink coffee, at all! I don’t like the smell, I hate the taste… I don’t even like tiramisu, lol. But my oldest daughter LOVES to go to Starbucks and I NEVER take her… so I decided to create a copycat Pumpkin Spice Latte recipe just for her. Tasty Tuesday – Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe Ever! [recipe & review]

I love to bake. I don’t do it as much as my kids would like, but when I do bake, I do it well! (Bread and cookies are my specialties, they never last longer than a few minutes in the house unless I bake when the kids aren’t home, lol).   This is my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe of all time. And it was the perfect recipe to test out my new BakeitFun Non-Stick Silicone Baking Mat I received as a sample. I always use parchment paper when baking cookies. I love how easily the cookies come off the pan and when I’m in a hurry I’ll just pick up the whole batch of cookies using the parchment paper and then place everything down on the cooling rack. I was a little …

Tasty Tuesday – Chocolate Pretzel Bars

My kids love to cook. Every time I start to make something they ask if they can help. Being a MAJOR control freak, and usually in a hurry to get dinner on the table, I almost always say “not now, thanks for asking.” So to say my kids were over the moon excited when I received Kids Cooking Made Easy: Favorite Triple-Tested Recipes to review, is an understatement. They poured over the book cover-to-cover and picked out several recipes to try. But the only one they all could agree on making first was the Chocolate Pretzel Bars. Before we get into the cooking, I’d like to talk about the cookbook. Written by Leah Schapira and Victoria Dwek, this cookbook includes 60 easy-to-make, kid-friendly Kosher recipes. Not that you need to be …

Tasty Tuesday – Chocolate Banana Breakfast/Snack Cookies

For the most part, my kids are very healthy eaters. Lean meats, whole grains, lots of fruits and veggies, and I limit their sweets. Or so I thought. I recently read an article about how much sugar is in most breakfast cereal and I was shocked! Here I thought I was giving them healthy food for breakfast, when in some cases they were eating the sugar equivalent of Oreo cookies. I wanted to find something that is nutritious, and easy for them to grab for breakfast on their own. They eat enough fruit during the day, and “it’s too hot to have waffles, mom!” So what’s a mom to do? I kept running across “healthy” breakfast cookie recipes on Pinterest and thought I’d give one a try. Who wouldn’t want …

Tasty Tuesday – Shrimp Tacos with Creamy Jalapeno Sauce

Last month I attended a meet and greet at Chuy’s with a group of area bloggers. We had the most fun tasting food, drinks, and spent a few hours chatting and laughing. The minute I read the description for the Baja Shrimp Tacos I knew I had to order them. “Baja Tacos – Freshly made flour tortillas with your choice of lightly battered and fried fish or shrimp, cilantro, red cabbage and Creamy Jalapeno sauce”. So simple, yet it appealed to me right away. My mouth watered when the plate was delivered. They looked so yummy!   And didn’t disappoint! The tacos were excellent. I wanted to go back for lunch the next day, and the day after that and the day after that! But that wasn’t an option. Chuy’s is …
