What’s for dinner?
Probably one of my least favorite questions ever. I’m not much of a meal planner. Unless I’m prepping for a blog post, I don’t usually know what we will be eating until a few minutes before dinner time and then I end up throwing together something simple, like pasta. Or my favorite, breakfast for dinner, because I don’t always have staples like chicken or beef in the freezer!
Dream Dinners to the rescue!
This chain of meal dinner assembly stores, Dream Dinners, was started by working mothers Stephanie Allen and Tina Kuna. The Snohomish, Washington-based company was the first to roll out this time-saving concept on a national scale. Read more about how it got started here.
Dream Dinners recognizes that the modern family has a lot on its plate and they don’t always have time to make a home-cooked meal. Pre-made frozen dinners, while convenient, are normally fat-laden items full of preservatives. To help bring families together around the dinner table, Dream Dinners provides an innovative way to prepare and serve healthy and delicious meals at home, without all the mess or the need to purchase ingredients you will only use once or twice.
In just over an hour, guests assemble a month’s worth of tasty, nutritious meals without the hassle of planning, shopping and chopping. Dinners are chosen from a rotating monthly menu and prepared with fresh, quality ingredients making it easy for guests to bring new flavors to their home. Meals are then cooked at home using our easy-to-follow instructions.
I had the pleasure of joining a group of bloggers last week to learn what Dream Dinners was all about. We each created three meals from a list of Dream Dinner favorites: Mini Turkey Medallions, BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Layered Ravioli Bake, Savory Grilled Chicken, Chicken Pizzaiola.
I picked the BBQ Pulled Pork sandwiches, Layered Ravioli Bake and Savory Grilled Chicken. Everything was so easy!
With Dream Dinners simple-to-use, color-coded recipes there is no searching for measuring cups or guessing how much you need of a specific ingredient. All the ingredients are conveniently prepped for you so no chopping, dicing or slicing necessary! Everything is laid out in front of you on an efficient prep station. AND none of the meals are pre-made! If you don’t like something–for example I HATE onions with a passion–you can just leave it out. Want more cheese and less sauce? Go right ahead! (They do offer a pre-made selection of grab and go items like side dishes and desserts.)
Once you have created the meal you wrap up your finished product, tape the recipe to the package so you know how to prepare the food when you get home and move on to the next station. In less than an hour I had three meals prepped and ready for my freezer.
Last night I cooked the Layered Ravioli Bake and it was a big hit with my girls. The tomato sauce was flavorful, with a little kick from the added red pepper flakes, and the ravioli tasted fresh and delicious.
It couldn’t have been any easier to make. I took the container out of the freezer the night before so it would defrost, (but you can bake it while frozen), then about an hour before dinner I preheated the oven to 350, removed the plastic wrap, placed the tray on a cookie sheet and baked for 45 minutes. Then I removed the cover and put it back into the oven for additional 15 minutes until the cheese was golden brown and bubbly.
I can’t thank Dream Dinners enough for allowing me the opportunity to try out their service. And right now they providing customers with a special introductory offer–select up to 6 family dinners for only $74.95!

Oh, what a brilliant idea! I have heard about people taking a Sunday afternoon and making meals for an entire week or month to freeze, but I love that Dream Dinners takes all the measuring out and makes that process much faster. 🙂
