Over the years I’ve developed a love for cooking that has branched out from mac & cheese and chicken casserole made with frozen veggies and cream of whatever soup, into new and interesting items that I never would have eaten when I was little… spicy Indian, sushi, Chinese, Latin, Spanish, just to name a few. And my kids LOVE it (usually)!
The past week or so it’s been very quiet on my blog because I’ve been frantically practicing for my appearance at the 2015 Food Lion Frugal Cook-off at the Southern Women’s Show in Charlotte (Charlotte Convention Center Hall A – 501 South College Street) on Saturday, August 29th. The cook-off begins at 11 AM.
While I enjoy cooking for family and friends, I’m not going to lie, when thinking about the cook-off my state of mind alternates between excitement and terror. It’s one thing to cook for your family, but to cook in front of a crowd, for a panel of judges (in front of a camera no less) is a whole different ball game. But my girls will be there to cheer me on, along with several friends, so I have a feeling everything is going to go smoothly.
I’m so excited to be a partnered with my fellow bloggers Jenny from The Melrose Family and Kelley from The Best Crowe’s Nest. The cook-off will be like Master Chef, blogger edition. Two teams of three bloggers will battle it out without knowing what ingredients we will have to work with until we get onto the stage! Oh, and did I mention that the winning team will be featured on a local news program, in a LIVE on the air food demonstration? No pressure there, right?!? While our competitors are serious food bloggers, we are confident that our yummy creations will rise above the competition.
I’m so grateful I was chosen to be a part of Food Lion’s Frugal Cook-off! As a mom of five hungry girls I have to keep the pantry full without breaking the budget. That is why I shop at Food Lion (pretty much every day). I hope that the meal that our team will prepare, will show the viewers that it is possible to create a healthy and delicious meal on a budget.
If you in in the area, stop on down and cheer us on! I’ll update you on the outcome as soon as I can.
