I am so excited to be celebrating Girl Carnivore’s Burger Month with about 60 of my closest blogging buddies and burger connoisseurs. Last year was my first year participating and I presented the Avocado Overload Chicken Nacho Burger. It’s still one of my family’s favorite burgers. By following #BurgerMonth, you will not only find some of the most creatively-amazing burgers again this year, but a boatload of awesome grill-inspired prizes, as well! Be sure to read all the way to the bottom of the page so you don’t miss the fantastic giveaway.
I don’t know about you, but while I was in college there may have been a time or two when I overindulged in adult beverages.
When that happened, my friends and I would head to the nearest diner for a good, greasy meal to help settle our stomachs. I’m not sure the science behind why that works, but it really does… helped me with morning sickness, too (the more you know)!
On one such occasion, the bun from my burger fell apart. I didn’t want to ask for a new bun so I decided to grab the amazingly crispy, uneaten hashbrowns from my friend’s plate and layered them around what was left of my burger patty.
Life. Changing. Decision.
Ever add french fries to your burger or chicken sandwich? If not, you should. It’s delicious! Well, replacing your hamburger bun with extra crispy hashbrowns is like that, only much, much better. Heavenly.
Now to really blow the taste of that delectable burger out of the water, add some bacon, Gouda, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and a perfectly fried egg. Season with steak sauce and you get a sublime combination that will help you feel better after your night out. Lots of protein, plus good fat, dairy, fruit, veggies, and carbs.
If this (and maybe a couple of Advil) won’t get rid of your hangover, than nothing will!
Secret to a good burger
Want to know the secret to a really good burger? Farm-fresh ground beef. Not the basic stuff you can buy at any grocery store. You need to find a local farmer (check for a Farmers Market near you) and purchase their flash-frozen ground beef. It is the best tasting ground beef I have ever had. Bar none!
I’d like to thank D’s Beef and Bees for providing the ground beef used in this recipe. Danny’s ground beef is what makes my Heavenly Hangover-Helper Breakfast Burger so delicious!
D’s Beef & Bees is a small farm located in Chatham County, NC near Siler City, run by Monica and Danny Street. They specialize in beef, goats, pure raw honey, and beekeeping supplies.
Danny is a third generation beef farmer who began raising Lowline Black Angus cows about 5 years ago. Lowline Angus is a special breed of Angus cattle that was developed in Australia in the 1970s. They are specifically bred to have a smaller stature (but are not dwarf cows). The height and weight of a Lowline is about 60% of that of the Black Angus.
Lowline beef is superior in quality, with excellent taste, texture and tenderness; plus they produce a 30% larger ribeye area. An added bonus, Lowlines consume about 1/3 the feed of a Black Angus, they use less water, and have a smaller carbon footprint than a regular-sized cattle, which is better for the environment. Because they need a lot less acreage, you can raise 10 lowlines in the same space of 6 Black Angus. Which means Lowlines are perfect for smaller farms like D’s Beef and Bees.

The Heavenly Hangover-Helper Breakfast Burger
The Heavenly Hangover-Helper Breakfast Burger
The Heavenly Hangover-Helper Breakfast Burger is not for the faint of heart.... really it's a LOT of fat and calories. BUT it's an amazing, once-in-a-while treat. Especially when you might have indulged in a few too many adult beverages the night before!
Ingredients
The Bun (Prepare in advance and keep warm):
- 1 lb. frozen hash browns, thawed and squeezed of excess water
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
- Salt and pepper to taste
The Burger Patty:
- 1/2 lb. ground sausage, hot or mild
- 1/2 lb. ground beef
- 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon LAWRY'S 25% less sodium seasoned salt
- Fresh ground pepper to taste
The Toppings:
- 4 fried eggs
- 8 slices thick bacon, cooked
- 4 slices Gouda cheese
- 1 avocado, thinly sliced
- 4 tomato slices
- Red leaf lettuce
- Steak sauce
Instructions
The Bun:
- In a medium bowl, combine hash browns, two lightly beaten eggs, and salt and pepper. Mix well. Butter a baking pan and place eight mason jar rings, rim side down. Evenly divide hashbrown mixture into each ring and press firmly to form a patty.
- Place under a broiler and cook until tops are uniformly golden brown. You may need to rotate the baking pan to make sure they brown evenly. Flip the hashbrowns, remove the lids and cook until golden brown.
- Keep warm and prepare the burgers.
To make burgers:
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef and sausage and season with the worcestershire sauce, LAWRY'S 25% less sodium seasoned salt, and fresh ground pepper to taste.
- Form into patties (slightly larger than the mason jar lid rings) and cook until medium, about 5 minutes per side. Top with gouda and let melt.
To assemble burgers:
- Place hash brown bun on plate and drizzle with steak sauce.
- Add burger, bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and fried egg, then top with hash second brown bun.
- Server immediately and enjoy immensely!
