I love checking out the National Day Calendar website every morning to see what I should be celebrating for that day. My favorites are the ones that involve food and alcohol! 🙂
Today happens to be National Compliment Day.
A sincere compliment has a powerful effect on a person. It can instantly improve their mood, brighten their day, make them smile, and remind them there is still good in the world. Take time to reflect on what you appreciate about someone in your life and then let them know!
For National Compliment Day I want to let my friend Amy know how much she means to me. She is one of the nicest, most talented people I know. Not to mention she is a great mom to her three kids.
Amy and I have a non-traditional friendship as we have only met in person twice! Once when she and her family drove from Texas to Pennsylvania and took a detour to visit us in Alabama, and once when I went to San Antonio with my husband on a business trip. It doesn’t matter that we don’t see each other every day. She is still one of my closest friends.

I met Amy in 2009 when I posted a website question on a message board for virtual assistants and she was the only person–out of over 1,000–who offered to help me. Amy was so kind and patient answering my questions. We got along great and began chatting on Skype every day.
After a while I started to do VA work for Amy whenever she had more tasks than time. Fast-forward eight years… we still chat nearly every day, and I still help her when I can. She has been such an amazing support to me over the years. I’m extremely thankful that a chance encounter brought her into my life.
National Compliment Day
What can you do for National Compliment Day? Tell someone at work that you love their dress/shoes/hair, take the time to let someone know how much they mean to you, or tell your child/spouse/friend you admire their accomplishment. It can do a lot to lift someone’s spirits, and it makes you feel pretty good, too.
I think complements are always a good way to go. It builds other people up and it makes you feel good too! I never knew there was a national complement today. How very interesting.
This so sweet! Thank you Kate! You are my rock! A day that I don’t talk to you is so odd and I miss you!
The berries from Shari’s berries were delicious! I had never had the champagne ones… Wow! They were beautiful and tasted wonderful!
I hope we can see each other again in person soon !
I Need to be better about giving out more compliments. I know my son does it in school, but I need to practice it at home, too.
I love that it’s National Compliment Day! I think we all need to compliment each other more. Can’t wait to share some compliments!
Well, compliments are necessary for healthy living. It shouldn’t be restricted to a single day. We should give compliments for every small deed.
To bad we could have national compliment day everyday. Great for you to show your friend how much she means to you.
I did not know this was a day for compliments, but I love the idea! So many times people do not give them or more importantly know how to receive them. Oftentimes we brush them off because of embarrassment. We should all welcome kindness!
I think its important to let people know how much you appreciate them and to give them some kind words. You never know when a kind word will change their day.
Is it really? Well I better work on complimenting people for the rest of the day! It is one of those things that just makes you feel good! I’ll start now –
I love that wrote such a nice post about your friend Amy!

I just love the idea of National Compliment Day. I feel like the world has turned into such a negative and mean place…we could all stand to have a day where we only say nice things to one another.

I love the idea of a compliment day. Sometimes we neglect to give this to a person who deserve it so much.
It is so true that one compliment can go a long way for someone. This post is indeed a big compliment to your friend Amy. I have to admit that I have never looked at the National Day Calendar but will have to start doing this now. Thanks for sharing National Compliment Day and spreading the word.
