I love checking out the National Day Calendar website every morning to see what I should be celebrating for that day. My favorites are the ones that involve food and alcohol! 🙂

Today happens to be National Compliment Day.

A sincere compliment has a powerful effect on a person. It can instantly improve their mood, brighten their day, make them smile, and remind them there is still good in the world. Take time to reflect on what you appreciate about someone in your life and then let them know!

For National Compliment Day I want to let my friend Amy know how much she means to me. She is one of the nicest, most talented people I know. Not to mention she is a great mom to her three kids.

Amy and I have a non-traditional friendship as we have only met in person twice! Once when she and her family drove from Texas to Pennsylvania and took a detour to visit us in Alabama, and once when I went to San Antonio with my husband on a business trip. It doesn’t matter that we don’t see each other every day. She is still one of my closest friends.

Amy and her family introduced our family to geocaching in the mountains of Alabama.

I met Amy in 2009 when I posted a website question on a message board for virtual assistants and she was the only person–out of over 1,000–who offered to help me. Amy was so kind and patient answering my questions. We got along great and began chatting on Skype every day.

After a while I started to do VA work for Amy whenever she had more tasks than time. Fast-forward eight years… we still chat nearly every day, and I still help her when I can. She has been such an amazing support to me over the years. I’m extremely thankful that a chance encounter brought her into my life.

National Compliment Day

What can you do for National Compliment Day? Tell someone at work that you love their dress/shoes/hair, take the time to let someone know how much they mean to you, or tell your child/spouse/friend you admire their accomplishment. It can do a lot to lift someone’s spirits, and it makes you feel pretty good, too.
