Quick & Delicious Hot Sandwiches Even Your Kids Can Make

Quick and Delicious Hot Sandwiches Even Your Kids Can Make

“Mom! What’s for dinner?” “I’m working. Make a sandwich.” “Not sandwiches again!!” “It’s that or go hungry.” “UGH!!!!” The past two months I have been working as much as I possibly can because my husband lost his job and bills don’t stop just because your income does. On top of all the extra work, my 16 year old is in duel enrollment (taking both high school and college courses) so I have to drive her to the college every Tuesday and Thursday night. Because I’m not available as much as usual, my girls have had to become a lot more self-sufficient. The bulk of our groceries this month have been cold cuts and bread. The girls have been eating so many cold sandwiches in fact, that when I brought home $5 Fav pizzas from Papa …

Geocaching 101

Geocaching 101

I’m sure you are thinking “what the heck is geocaching?” Well, I always describe it as a modern-day treasure hunt, only the treasure map is your smartphone or GPS and the treasure is a box of dollar store trinkets. There are nearly 6 million geocachers and over 2.6 million active geocaches worldwide—there are probably caches near you right now. What is a cache? Literally a cache is “a collection of items of the same type stored in a hidden or inaccessible place.” In geocaching, a cache is simply a container that geocachers hide and find using GPS coordinates… caches come in all different shapes and sizes–anywhere from micro-sized, where there is just enough space for a very small log (a piece of paper to sign when you find the cache) to large ammo cans …

Quick & Easy Tyson® Chicken Nugget Parm

Disclosure: This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #TysonMovieOffer #CollectiveBias As a work from home mom you would think that I’d have MORE time to cook a nice dinner every night for my family. But honestly between chauffeuring the girls back and forth from school, errands, carting the girls off to robotics, girl scouts and/or whatever other after-school activities they have, PLUS completing my client work that never seems to end (NOT that I’m complaining), some nights my girls are lucky to get cold cereal for dinner. To keep them from contacting Child Protective Services I decided to stock our freezer with some quick and easy dinner options that they can prepare themselves when I’m working late. I picked up several packages of Tyson® …

The Lazy Mom’s Guide to Party Planning - My Mommy Brain

The Lazy Mom’s Guide to Party Planning

Disclosure: I am part of the BJ’s Wholesale Club Blogger Ambassador program. The following is a sponsored post. Although I was supplied products and/or compensated for writing this post, all thoughts and opinions are my own. I only recommend products or services I believe in, and use myself. I have a confession. I hate planning birthday parties. Coming up with a clever theme, all the researching, organizing, Pinterest-ing and the feelings of inadequacy that brings! Then all the shopping, baking, goody bag making… it’s all too much for a lazy mom like me. I’d rather spend my time with the girls doing fun things like exploring the many Charlotte area festivals and events! Not to mention I’m cheap! I know it’s less work, but I don’t want to spend the money to have a party outside of our …

Fun in the Sun with FabKids

Disclosure: I received an outfit from FabKids in exchange for this review but all opinions are my own. After eight straight days of cold, depressing rain, I started pricing out building materials for an ark. But then on the ninth day, the sun shone once again. And what a gorgeous day it was! Bright sun, a light breeze, and no humidity. Too nice of a day to stay inside. So as soon as my girls got off the school bus I scooped them up and took them to the little playground downtown. They had so much fun running around, soaking up the sun and dancing in their adorable FabKids outfits! So what is FabKids? FabKids is a personalized shopping experience that gives you access to high-quality, fashionable, and super affordable kids clothes and …

Chaos and Craziness

I love having a large family, most of the time. I enjoy the chaos and craziness of my kids. But there are times when I just need a break. Like after this weekend, for example. Saturday, I woke up after only four and a half hours of sleep (and four little feet in my back), gave my daughters their traditional Webkinz Valentine’s Day gift and headed to the kitchen for a strong cup of Irish tea. I sat down at my computer to read my email and skim the newspaper and just as I was about to take my first sip I hear “MOM, SHE HOGGING THE COMPUTER!” After explaining to my 4 and 6 YOs about patience and setting the timer on my iPhone for 15 minutes, I sat …

You Gotta Love the Weekend

Why is it that I have to drag my kids out of bed Monday through Friday mornings, but come Saturday and Sunday they are up at the crack of dawn? The two days of the week that I can actually sleep in (to 8 or 9 if I’m lucky, woo-hoo!) and they have to get up at 6. To top it all off, it isn’t like one of the five will get up and quietly go downstairs to watch TV or play on the computer, noooooo! Daughter #1 has to wake up someone else to keep her company and then the others hear all the commotion and get up as well. Within minutes it’s pandemonium and as loud as a gymnasium full of gradeschoolers. Now, I do have a fabulous …

I need a Mommy Free Day

No, I don’t need a day away from my mom (on the contrary, I could use a visit right now). I need a day away from my kids. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE my children. Some days it is just hard to cope with 5 kids underfoot. And it is twice as hard because I work out of my home so I am here 24/7– apart from the occasional trip to the grocery store or Walgreens. I couldn’t tell you the last time I went to see a movie in a theater…I actually think it was Willy Wonka (the one with Johnny Depp). And my husband and I go out to dinner exactly once a year for our anniversary (if we’re lucky). To understand what it is like here, …
